Last night, I watched as County Executive Adam Streight and members of the County Council recognized four Cecil County Sheriff’s Office deputies for their extraordinary bravery and service.
The recognition stemmed from a dangerous incident on May 7, 2023, when deputies responded to a burglary in progress at a residence in Port Deposit. After entering the home and identifying suspicious activity, they were suddenly ambushed by an armed individual and came under gunfire. Thanks to their swift response and teamwork, the suspect was apprehended and charged.
For their courage and commitment to public safety, Cpl. Robert Freyer, DFC Dale Smith, DFC Sean Rickey, and then-Deputy Brandon McMillen were each awarded the Cecil County Sheriff’s Office Medal of Honor.
I am grateful for the dedication of these deputies and for all who serve to protect and safeguard our communities every day.
